Suddenly, the Catholic Church is marketable

December 12, 2013

From the times-they-are-a-changin’ file: In days of yore (read: last year), few would have invoked the Mother Church in its advertising. This year, an Argentine sports network cleverly wove a papal speech into a commercial for its World Cup coverage next year. A Religion News Service writer wryly commented: “Let’s hope the Vatican doesn’t sue.” Personally, I think the savvy Magisterium should mail a thank-you card for the free publicity.
