Signs of the times …

A multiple choice question came to my mind while I sampled the slogans and signs of the “Occupy America” movement: How should biblical Christians react to it?

_____ Pretend we’re ostriches and hide our head in the sand.

_____ Emulate our 1960’s forebears, who condemned all those “hippies” as children of the devil and failed to see their legitimate longing for truth, honesty, justice, and a deeper spirituality — which rendered reaching out to them a mockery until the Jesus Movement, which many mainline Christians rejected.

_____ Go the opposite way and sanctify the whole thing like other Christians did in the 1960’s, totally naive to the era’s darker side.

_____ See the connections.  Embrace the movement’s anger at Wall Street’s greed; join the chorus calling for compassion, truth, and justice; listen and respectfully debate over issues in which we disagree.

You decide which is right.  Meanwhile, here are some of those slogans and signs:

Last, but not least, is a sign in my usually lazy home town of Hebron, CT.  Not that this brings back memories or anything …

i especially like your choice reactions, listed before the signage. just suggesting the idea that there are a variety of choices, instead of only one choice, is refreshing.

    thank you.
